Keenan Data Breach Details

Keenan & Associates, a California-based insurance brokerage and consulting firm with a strong presence in the education, healthcare, and public agencies sectors, is currently facing a data breach incident.

The hackers were able to gain access to the personal information of 1.5 million customers.

Keenan, which has been a part of AssuredPartners NL since 2017, has taken immediate action by submitting a notification to the Office of the Maine Attorney General. The Keenan & Associates Data Breach, which occurred during the summer of 2023, has impacted a total of 1,509,616 individuals.

 “On Sunday, August 27, 2023, we discovered certain disruptions occurring on some Keenan network servers,”

“We immediately began an investigation and engaged leading third-party cybersecurity and forensic experts to assist.”

“The investigation determined that an unauthorized party gained access to certain Keenan internal systems at various times between approximately August 21, 2023 and August 27, 2023, and that the unauthorized party obtained some data from Keenan systems.”

Data Compromised in the Keenan Data Breach

During the Keenan Data Breach, network intruders obtained the following details, which have been shuffled for security purposes:

  • Passport number
  • Full name
  • Health insurance information
  • Social Security number (SSN)
  • General health information
  • Driver’s license number
  • Date of birth

The data breach incident at Keenan & Associates has impacted both customers and employees, with the specific types of exposed information varying for each individual based on their relationship with the firm.

The potential consequences of this breach are significant, as it increases the risk of identity theft, financial fraud, phishing attacks, and health insurance fraud.

Keenan has taken immediate action to improve the security of its network, internal systems, and applications. Furthermore, the company is considering additional steps to further enhance security measures.
