Omni Hotels Nationwide IT Outage Due to a Possible Cyberattack

Omni Hotels & Resorts has recently faced a system-wide IT outage that resulted in the disruption of its IT systems on Friday. This outage has affected various aspects of their operations, including reservation systems, hotel room door locks, and point-of-sale (POS) systems.

During the Omni Hotels IT outage, the official website of Omni Hotels & Resorts was temporarily unavailable. However, after it came back online over the weekend, a notification was added, apologizing for the technical difficulties and advising customers to try again at a later time.

Based on customer reports shared on social media, it appears that despite the outage, all locations of Omni Hotels & Resorts have remained open and continue to welcome new guests.

However, front desk employees have experienced challenges with new reservations, credit card payments, and making modifications to existing reservations.

“It’s pretty bad. They have it so you have to text them to come let you into your room, and it usually takes 30+ minutes for an employee to get there and unlock it for you,

Cause of Omni Hotels IT Outage Still Not Clear

Omni Hotels & Resorts has not disclosed the specific cause of the chain-wide incident that led to the outage. However, the company did release a statement on Monday, confirming that their IT team is diligently working to restore the offline systems. They are actively engaged in resolving the issue to bring the systems back online as soon as possible.

“Dear valued guests, our technology teams are continuing to work on restoring our systems that are currently down,” Omni Hotels shared on Twitte and Facebook. “Your business is very important to us; we appreciate your patience and apologize for the disruption.”

Omni Hotels & Resorts has restricted replies to their statement on both platforms, only permitting users to like and share the post. Additionally, the hotel chain’s phone helpline is currently unavailable, with a recorded message apologizing for the technical difficulties and advising callers to try again later.

Reports from Omni Hotels employees indicate that the IT team is currently engaged in a manual restoration process, rebuilding affected servers from the ground up. Employees have been informed that the systems are expected to be operational again by Thursday.

Omni Hotels is a prominent hospitality company operating 50 hotels and resorts across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They offer a total of approximately 23,550 rooms and boast 28 golf courses in their portfolio.

When reached out for comment on Friday regarding the recent chain-wide outage, an Omni Hotels spokesperson was not available for response.

It is worth noting that Omni Hotels experienced a data breach in July 2016.

At that time, malware infected the point-of-sale (PoS) systems in 49 out of their 60 North American hotels.

The attackers utilized this malware to collect payment card information, including cardholder names, credit/debit card numbers, security codes, and expiration dates. The breach occurred between December 23, 2015, and June 14, 2016.
