New York-based Insight Partners, a prominent venture capital and private equity firm, recently disclosed a significant cyber attack. The incident, which occurred in January 2025, involved a sophisticated social engineering attack. The firm manages over $90 billion in regulatory assets and has invested in more than 800 technology companies globally.
The cyber attack compromised some of Insight Partners’ information systems on January 16th. The company promptly notified law enforcement and engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate..
“As soon as this incident was detected, we moved quickly to contain, remediate, and start an investigation within a matter of hours.”, The company said in a statement.
Insight Partners emphasized that, to their knowledge, the attackers did not maintain access to their network after the breach was discovered. While the firm hasn’t detailed operational disruptions, they stated, “there has been no additional disruption to Insight’s operations as a result of the incident.”
The nature of the stolen data, if any, remains undisclosed. The company is working with leading forensic and eDiscovery experts and legal counsel to determine the full extent of the cyber attack. This investigation is expected to take several weeks.
They added, “We are working diligently to determine the scope of the incident…which, as shared with stakeholders, will take several weeks.”
Insight Partners reassured stakeholders, said, “We don’t believe, based on what is known, there will be any material impact on portfolio companies, Insight funds or other stakeholders.”
They committed to updating affected individuals as the investigation progresses.
