Cartier Discloses Cybersecurity Breach Impacting Customer Information

Luxury fashion house Cartier has confirmed a cybersecurity breach that led to unauthorized access to its internal systems and the exposure of customer data. The company disclosed the incident in notification letters sent to affected individuals, some of which have circulated publicly on social media.

“We are writing to inform you that an unauthorized party gained temporary access to our system and obtained limited client information,” the letter states.

“We contained the issue and have further enhanced the protection of our systems and data.”

According to Cartier, the data obtained by attackers includes:

    • Full names
    • Email addresses
    • Country of residence

No passwords, payment card numbers, or banking details were compromised. However, Cartier is cautioning customers to stay alert for potential phishing attempts or social engineering tactics that may follow.

“Given the nature of the data, we recommend that you remain alert for any unsolicited communications or any other suspicious correspondence,” the company added.

The incident has been reported to law enforcement. Cartier also confirmed it is working with external cybersecurity experts to investigate and mitigate the impact.

Ongoing Wave of Cyberattacks Targeting Fashion Industry

Cartier’s breach is part of a broader pattern of cyberattacks against fashion and luxury brands in recent weeks:

    • Dior reported a breach in May that exposed customer contact information, purchase history, and personal preferences.
    • Adidas revealed that attackers accessed contact data via a third-party service provider. No financial or login data was compromised.
    • Victoria’s Secret took down its website and some in-store services last week due to a security incident, which remains under investigation.

These breaches underline a growing trend of threat actors targeting high-profile fashion retailers for valuable customer data. As online retail expands and customer datasets grow, cybersecurity has become a critical concern across the luxury goods sector.

Cartier has not yet shared details on how many customers were affected or the timeline of the breach, and inquiries to the company remain unanswered.
